RAINY DAY AT GLACIER

St. Mary's at Glacier - Heavy T-Storm, damaging winds, large hail and possible tornado - H70 Low 46

I was sitting at my computer which faces the front window and noticed something moving out of the corner of my eye.  Running at full speed from behind the bathrooms was a fox.  He ran toward us, stopped and posed long enough for us to grab the camera and snap a few pictures.  I get so excited when something like that happens.

Welcome

He's soaked from the rain - is it a red fox?
The weather didn't stop us from taking an afternoon drive along Going-to-the-Sun Road to Logan Pass.  Unfortunately, due to heavy fog and rain it was virtually impossible to see the tops of the mountains.  We stopped at St. Mary's Visitor Center and got our passport stamped.  We watched two movies.  One was about the renovations and millions of dollars being spent on the Going-to-the-Sun Road and what a vast undertaking it is.  The other movie was about how the glaciers, lakes and mountains were formed in this area.  Scientists believe that by the year 2030 all the glaciers will have melted.  At one time these glaciers were 5,000 feet thick.

This was pretty with the water running beneath the ice

This was our view of fog and rain through the windshield

I watched this mini-avalanche

Even in the rain, the Beargrass was very pretty
I'm feeling much better today although it doesn't take much to fill my tummy.  Tonight I'm making my first attempt at German red cabbage.  Denis just said, "what is that smell? it smells like that stuff you put on ham".  I said "does it smell good?" and he replies "I don't know, it smells strong".  Well, I like the smell of cloves, butter, apples, cider vinegar, sugar and red cabbage.... hope it tastes good.

That's all folks - thanks for stopping in

FOOD POISONING - GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

Have you watched the movie Brides Maids where they all get food poisoning?  I thought the scene in the bathroom was hilarious but it is not very funny in real life.

Two night ago, Denis and I ate at Applebees.  I ordered a chicken dish which was very tasty.  Little did I know that 24 hours later I'd be spending the night by the toilet.  It was a terrible experience and one I would not wish on my worse enemy.  Today I am feeling shaky and weak but have begun to eat saltines and rice.  Hopefully, by tomorrow I'll be back to normal.

Today we drove the 250 some odd miles to Glacier National Park.  I slept most of the way.  We have a nice pull-through site facing the glacier mountains at Saint Mary's Campground.

That's all folks - thanks for stopping in.

A PERFECT DAY FOR REST AND RELAXATION

White Sulphur Springs, MT - Happy Father's Day

Woke up to sunny skies and a day of leisure.  St. Bartholemew Church was only five minutes away and they had one mass at noon.  You know you're in Montana when the men in the parish put on a clean pair of jeans, a western shirt with snaps and their dirty cowboy boots.

This is where we're staying - very pretty and well maintained park
Not much to write about because we just dilly-dallied around the campground, read, sat in the sunshine, walked the parimeter of the park and practiced with my camera lens.  They have a small gift shop at the office and I went there without Denis hoovering over my shoulder.  I've been looking for a honey pot and found one made by a local potter.  I also bought a bracelet made of braided horse hair with turquoise stones and some locally made moisturizing goats milk soap and lotion.  Ahhh ... the luxuries in life.

These photos are a compilation over the last few days.

I wonder how this train got here?

These guys make great watch dogs

I just liked this shot
Both Christi and Daniel called Denis to wish him a Happy Father's Day (and I didn't even have to remind them).  It was nice to see them on ooVoo and catch up on what they've been doing.  I was happy to hear that Daniel is seeing a chiropractor/doctor that found out why he's been having back pain and they have a course of treatment.  Christi spent most of our conversation obsessing about a relationship that may not be a good one for her.

That's all folks - thanks for stopping in.

SHOPPING IS EXHAUSTING

After breakfast and a little exercise our plan was to hit Walmart, Costco, Target, Macy's and a grocery store. The closest shopping center was almost an hour away.  We had a list a mile long and  a mission to complete.  The new camera 600-1300 mm lens is too heavy and cumbersome to hold by hand.  Denis found a nice sturdy tripod at Target, first problem solved.  While he was in Target, I went to Macy's to search for new sheets and bedspread (we've had the original coach bedspread for seven years).  They were having a 40% off one day only sale and I found a beautiful cream colored bedspread which was originally priced $340 and the matching shams were $80 each.  The sheets were originally $135 for the set.  But you Macy's shoppers know I didn't pay any where near those prices, matter of fact, my total savings was $471.80.  You've got to love Macy's.

Thought you'd enjoy this colorful bird
Next stop was Costco and it was lunchtime so we stopped at every free sample table and by the time we finished our shopping we didn't need to go for lunch.  I wonder how many other people do that??!!
I like that Costco is carrying more organic products.  Next was Walmart for just a few things on the list.  That went pretty quickly.

Denis didn't tell me when we set off this morning that he was planning on taking in a matinee to see the new Superman movie.  He said it's what he wanted for father's day.  How can I argue with that?  I think the story was a good one but in my opinion they dragged out the fighting scenes and I had visual overload with all the special effects.  I kept asking myself  ... will it ever end?

We found a store called Natural Grocers that sells 100% certified organic produce and I was in my glory.  The fruits and veggies looked great and their prices were reasonable.  I wished they had these stores everywhere.

Denis made up for dragging me to the movie by taking me to Applebees for dinner.  I can't remember if and when we've ever eaten there before but we choose the 2 for $20 special and found it very good.  It's nice not to pay any sales tax in Montana and I have leftovers for tomorrow.

By the time we got home and unloaded all our purchases it was nearly 8:30.  It's still light outside at that time and I find that weird but I'll get used to it.

Hope your day was more relaxing than ours.  We plan on completely vegging out tomorrow.

That's all folks - thanks for stopping in.

MOVING ON

White Sulphur Springs, Montana - Partly cloudy skies. High 58 Low 37

We drove about 120 miles today from park to park.  It's so nice to have full hookups, high speed internet and good phone service.  The campground is surrounded by green rolling hills and pastures.  My picture window view is facing the mountain range and cattle grazing.... so peaceful.

Denis kept busy all day cleaning the coach and car.  I had plenty of laundry to catch up on and a little house cleaning.

I know this isn't one of my more interesting posts but that's all folks.

Thanks for stopping in.
