Biscayne National Park

Spent some time at Biscayne National Park today.  The park, is located 20 miles east of Everglades National Park and was established as a national monument in 1968.  It's 173,000 acres and 95% of that is water.  The best way to see the park is either snorkeling, scuba diving or a glass bottom boat.  We were all excited about taking the boat until we found out the park no longer offers that service.   But they did have a very extensive visitor's center with great exhibits and a 1/4 mile boardwalk.  We couldn't believe how many fish we could see just by peering over the boardwalk.  We saw one fish with another fish in its mouth...pretty cool.

It was hot and humid today but no mosquitoes, thankfully.  We don't go out after dusk because I'm sure those little buggers are out there just waiting to suck our blood.
On the way home, we stopped at Publix for some groceries.  I bought all my produce at Robert is Here..  A family owned business for over 50 years.  They have a big outdoor covered market with every kind of fruit and veggie.  When they're ripe, I'm going to taste a prickly pear fruit and a custard-like fruit that I have to wait until it turns completely black and oozing before eating it with a spoon.

Have you tried any of these?

Richard's also had a mini-farm in the back with emu, goats, rams, geese, chickens, roosters, goats, turkeys, giant tortoises, turtles, donkeys, parrots, macaws and a splash park for the kids.  Not to mention the home made fruit milkshakes and slushies.  We tried the mango and it was delicious.

We didn't leave the air conditioning running while we were gone because the generator noise annoys people but as soon as we got back we flipped the generator on and guess what?  The AC doesn't want to stay on.  This is deja vu for us and I'm hoping it's not going to be a big problem.
