Tonto National Monument

Drove back up to the Apache Trail today passed Tortilla Flats, passed the Roosevelt Dam on 25 miles of dirt road, steep cliffs without guardrails, jutting rock on one side and canyons on the other, one-lane traffic but cars going both ways.  Yes, it was an adventure.  Our destination was the cliff dwellings at the Tonto National Monument.

This is the road we took to the Tonto National Monument

The walk to the cliff dwellings is a steep one-mile round-trip trail which ascends 350 feet.  We got our National Monument passport stamped at the Visitor's Center and watched a movie about the people who lived there.   We took the longer route home but it was beautifully paved highway.

Views are spectacular
