Colorado National Monument

We left Moab late this morning and drove about 120 miles to Fruita, Colorado.  Only one stop along the way to top off the propane and gasoline in both vehicles.

We visited the little Mormon village of Fruita in Utah - Now here we are in Colorado and another town named Fruita

Home for a few nights

We didn't make reservations and planned on "winging it" which worked out great.  We landed at Colorado National Monument's Saddlehorn Campground.  With 80 first-come, first-served sites we had no problem finding a nice location.  It was rather scary driving up the sheer cliff drop offs along the canyon rim and through two tunnels that were blasted and shaped in the 1930s by the CCC.  The middle of the tunnels were 16' high but the sides were closer to 11', so as long as we drove in the middle there was no problem.  It was all worth it because we are literally "on top of the world".

I sort of promised you that we wouldn't be taking more rock pictures but it looks like tomorrow we'll be exploring places with names like Balanced Rock, Window Rock and Independence Monument.  Here we go again!
