DRIVING IN HEAVY WINDS - FUN

First time visit to South Dakota
Chadron, Nebraska's Walmart was a great place for an overnight stay.  Plenty of parking, no trucks and very quiet.  We're feeling the aftermath of those tornado's in the mid- and south-west regions with steady winds of 20 to 30 mph, powerful gusts and chilly temperatures.  Driving from Chadron, NE to Rapid City, SD would have been a piece-of-cake if it hadn't been for the wind which made driving difficult. We arrived safely at a ROD park and we're looking forward to a two-week stay.  It will be a nice change from National Parks and Walmart stores without hookups.

This is our first time to this area.  I picked up the South Dakota Vacation Guide and a handful of pamphlets.  Of course, our priorities are Badlands National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Wind Cave National Park.  Hope we'll have time for Wall Drug Store, Custer State Park and Deadwood.  I'd also like to see The Corn Palace and Ingalls Homestead.  They also have the Black Hills Passion Play that runs from June-August that sounds interesting.

This is a lovely park with green grass and trees

We have this ROD area pretty much to ourselves
That's a lot to do in a short time but we'll do our best.  It would be nice if the wind dies down and the sun peeks out.

Thanks for stopping in.
Saw a herd of bison on our drive today
