Indian Canyons - Palm Springs, CA

Palm Desert, CA - Another day in paradise

One of the things I love most about this lifestyle are the people in the park.  I've come up with names for the different groups of people we bump into.  First we have what I call the "campers", they are the ones who come in on Friday night and leave on Sunday, unless Monday is a holiday.  They are the ones that love to build a campfire and sit around it until bedtime.  Then we have the "park people", they are the ones who stay at one park for anywhere between three weeks to six months.  They select a park based on the activity schedule and prefer to stay at the park rather than explore their surroundings.  Then we have the "full-timers" that have sold their house and keep moving.  Full-timers have numerous memberships and stay for two to three weeks before moving to the next park.  They go to the visitor's center and find out what they can see within a 60-mile radius from the park and they see it all.  We fall into the full-timers category, what group are you in?  Or is their another group that I'm missing.   I realize this is a big-time generalization but it's all in fun.

This was in the parking area

We signed up for a member-generated hike today and they went to the same place we went to yesterday, well sort of.   Instead of parking in the second parking lot, we parked at the closest one to the entrance and hiked Murray Canyon with about twelve other hikers.  It was a moderate 4-mile round trip with a 600 foot elevation gain and ended at Seven Sisters Waterfall.   I guess in the desert they use the word "waterfall" very loosely.  We ended up breaking off from the group in order to keep a good pace but they caught up with us when we stopped for lunch at the waterfall.  We took West Fork trail along the ridge (the rest of the group re-traced their steps) which was very pretty but extended the hike for a little longer than we would have liked.   We were dragging by the time we got to the parking lot and our group was long gone.

This is the result of the women grinding

I believe this is a red-tailed hawk - very large bird
I'm pointing to the snow capped mountain - I love my new hat

They call that trickle of water behind Denis a waterfall
