Southern style pulled pork with homemade coleslaw - YUM
Yesterday and today we spent a few hours perusing the aisles at the College of the Desert Street Fair. What's interesting is that the street fair and the alumni association memberships raise enough funds to provide over $250,000 in scholarships and financial aid per year.
Denis bought another pair of hiking/fishing shorts and a foot smoother/grater. I purchased "The Original 12-hour Lipstick by Lamore Cosmetics", a "desert dry" shirt and a ceramic grater hand crafted in the Cordoba province of Spain. It's a pretty little dish with grating teeth and works beautifully for grating garlic, nutmeg, fresh ginger and lemon zest.

Just as I snapped this photo - the vendor held up a sign saying "no photos" - oops
On the way out of the park, I noticed a vendor selling those skin-tight cotton, spandex, polyester jeans and shorts. For the bargain price of $20 I bought a pair of jeans and shorts without even trying them on. Imagine how happy I was to come home, try them on and find they look and fit great. I may never wear regular jeans again ... they are SO comfortable. The jeans look fabulous with my cowboy boots.

We learned how difficult it is to grow dates
The street fair closes at 2:30 and we were not far from Shield's World Famous Date Garden. We got in line for their date shake which was very yummy, watched the film Romance and Sex Life of the Date and tasted some of their free samples. Again, we didn't walk out of there without making a few purchases. I found a sun hat and we bought some dates to send home to Christi and Daniel. They have an outdoor cafe that overlooks the garden and the menu looks pretty good so I guess we'll have to come back.

The building looks pretty much like it did back in the 50's
