Spent the night in the Walmart parking lot and Denis finally got the rest he so badly needed. He's like a new man this morning. This Walmart isn't open 24-hours and was very quiet until about 3AM when a truck pulled in. Five guys got out and set up a tent in the grass by the parking lot. It was a funny sight to see them in the morning with bed heads sitting on the curb sipping coffee.
Fort St. John is the oldest non-native settlement on the British Columbia mainland discovered by Alexander Mackenzie in 1793. In 1794 the Rocky Mountain Fort was established as a trading post for the Beaver and Sikanni First Nations and a supply depot for further expeditions into BC.

The Milepost Alaska Travel Planner is going to be invaluable on this trip. We found a fresh water fill-up and dump station on 86th Street and the Alaska Highway using the book. The book also told us we could park for free at Centennial Park in the North Peace Leisure Pool and Arena parking lot. What it didn't tell us was that we have electricity and a beautiful flower garden.

Everything is within walking distance from the Centennial Park including the visitor's center, walking tour and museum. We went to the Farmer's Market and bought some raw wildflower honey, BC cherries, tomatoes and romaine lettuce.
The town is celebrating Canada Day and they setup tents at the park. We walked to church for 7:30 mass, came back to the park and enjoyed the entertainment and food until 10PM. This is a lovely town.
