LAST NIGHT IN EL GOLFO

Did you know that the Sea of Cortez lies between mainland Mexico and the Baja Peninsula?  It is bordered by the Mexican states of Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa and Baja California Sur.  It is the 8th most traveled destination by foreign visitors.  Known formally as the United Mexican States, Mexico is the 5th biggest country in the Americas, spanning nearly two million square kilometers. Mexico is made up of 31 states, the capital being Mexico City.  Mexico is the 11th country in the world in terms of population, with more than 100 million people living all over the country.  Mexico is considered to be a middle-income country.

The largest dog at the park - his owner walks him every night

This was his reaction to having his picture taken
Those of some interesting text book facts about Mexico but what's even more interesting is what I've learned while we've been here.  The people here are friendly, with warm smiles and willing to lend a hand.  The fishing community are hard working families that like to sing and laugh.  We never felt threatened or intimidated.  We talked to some of the locals and they've never had school shootings like we've had in the United States.  They think the United States is scary.  I guess it's all a matter of perspective.  I'm sure there are areas in Mexico that are unsafe and corrupt and I wouldn't want to walk the streets at night.  But I could say the same thing about some cities in the United States.

I've very much enjoyed our time here in this little town.  Most of the people come to this park every winter and have been doing so for many years.  Some like it so much that they have become residents, others stay full time.  Some say they can't afford to stay any where else.  They all have one thing in common and that is they've fallen in love with this little piece of paradise.

Watching the sunset - ahhh

That's the Bajas in the background

That's all folks!  Thanks for stopping in.

  1. Exactly what I try to tell people about Mexico. We spent three months touring the coast down to Mazatlan and back in the small town and villages it was wonderful.
Cities, no matter what country can be unsafe and scary at times.
Glad you enjoyed it there, now keep heading south.
