This morning we went to 8:30 mass with Tony and Mieke following by a nice breakfast at I-Hop. Then it was time to say goodbye. We're going to Palm Springs and they're going to Casa Grande. We like the Palm Springs area and look forward to eating fresh citrus and dates.

We got settled in this afternoon and later took a brisk walk around the park. I picked an orange and grapefruit for tomorrow morning's breakfast.

The Salton Sea looks pretty from a distance but I read that the beaches are not sand but layers of barnacles and bones from the millions of fish due to mass die-offs over the years. The blue water is, also, an illusion, it's a reflection of the desert sky and it smells like sulfuric decay.
My brother picked up dad from the Soldier's Home on Friday and took him for a ride around the old neighborhood. They visited my Aunt Donna (she rents my dad's house) and dad got the chance to see how nice it looks. My brother said it was a good visit and sent me this photo.

We spent a week at the Salton Sea and we must have been there at just the right time. It didn't have a bad smell at all. And there were thousands of birds which was fascinating to me. But I've heard it can really be bad. Good picture of the family.

DeleteWe spent some time camping by the Salton Sea as well a very interesting history lesson we learned while there. Mostly off shore breezes and cooler temperatures the smell was not that bad. I guess you missed slab city then too.
