Yesterday we visited the Cape Cod Canal Visitor's Center.  Did you know it is the widest sea level canal in the world?  It's 17.4 miles long  and about 30 feet deep.  Much of the work was done during the depression by the US Army Corps of Engineers.
Today we visited the Dexter Grist Mill and the Hoxie House both located on the Shawme Pond in Sandwich.  Mr. Dexter was one of two men who settled Sandwich in 1637.  I bought an old-fashioned cloth flour bag of freshly ground cornmeal.  The Hoxie House (circa 1640) was acquired by the town in 1959 and authentically restored.  Do you know why the houses are called salt boxes?  Because they are shaped exactly like the containers used to store salt (called a salt box).
