| Structure which protects Plymouth Rock |
Today we drove into Plymouth to follow the footsteps of history and trace the past by taking the audio walking tour of Pilgrim's Path. We brought a picnic lunch and ate on a bench overlooking the Plymouth Harbor. We saw the full scale re-creation of the Mayflower II built in England and sailed to Plymouth in 1957 and, of course, Plymouth Rock. There were 23 sites, statues, monuments and historical houses on the tour. One of the most impressive was the Forefathers Monument built in 1889. It is one of the largest free-standing granite statues in the world. The figure of Faith is 216 times life size. It represents the virtues of the Pilgrims. We walked and walked until we just couldn't walk any more. The sun was blazing and temperatures were in the high 80's. So the fresh brewed iced coffee, lemonade and watermelon sherbet tasted awfully good.
