EXPLORING STRANGE NEW PLACES

The wind last night and our excitement about leaving for Mexico in the morning did not allow for a good night's sleep.  We got up around 6:00, made coffee, brought in the slides, lifted the jacks, lowered the antennas, disconnected the hookups and we were heading to Mexico before 7:00 with Tony and Mieke following close behind.

We've crossed into Mexico many times on foot but this was out first time driving in with the coach and staying for a couple of weeks.  Alton and Wendy, our friends that go to Mexico every year, were supposed to be our guides.  However, because of their recent motorcycle accident and doctor's appointments they've been delayed and we're on our own (with lots of good information from Alton).

We've arrived in Mexico
We crossed at San Luis border without any problems.  They came inside, asked a few questions, looking in the fridge, a few cabinets and that was the extent of their search.  Further on down the road was a road block with armed guards stopping cars and trucks to ask if we have plants or fruit on board.  We answered no.  The town was lined with vendors and signs that I couldn't read.  We found the toll highway with just one mess up along the way.  The toll was $210 pesos or $17 and some change.  The 50 plus mile toll road was straight, paved and deserted.

Here's Tony and Mieke paying the toll
I'm going to have to learn some Spanish
Getting to our campground was uncomplicated and we have a picture window view of the ocean. Denis already hired someone to make the car repairs and we bought a kilo of large shrimp for $16.
It's very windy today which makes it difficult to walk the beach but the rest of the week is supposed to be beautiful.

Here we are facing the ocean - very nice

Denis braved the wind to do his Tai Chi and ended up with sand in his hair and ear

  1. Enjoy your time in Mexico, we toured down to Mazatlan for three months and really enjoyed the local people and the small towns.
